Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 5, 2026 · Applies to the BrewDesk iOS app
The short version
BrewDesk is a free directory of places to work from — cafes, libraries, and parks — starting with New York City. Version 1 does not have accounts, purchases, advertising, analytics, or user submissions. Your location is used only to find cafes near you; we do not retain location history.
Location
- Location access is optional. If you grant permission, BrewDesk sends your current coordinates to our venue service to rank nearby cafes for that request.
- We do not create a location history, associate coordinates with an identity, or use location in the background. If you decline permission, you can still browse the directory from its default New York City area.
What we do not collect
- No advertising identifiers, no third-party trackers, no analytics SDKs.
- No name, email address, account, password, or payment information.
- No contacts, photos, calendar, microphone, or camera access.
- No background location. Location is read only while the app is open.
- No location history, and no profile of the places you visit.
How we use it
To operate BrewDesk: showing cafes near you and ranking them by how well they suit working based on signals such as Wi-Fi, outlets, laptop policy, and noise.
Who sees it
- Service providers: Vercel hosts our venue service and processes requests on our behalf under its security and privacy commitments.
- Legal: we may disclose data if required by law.
Where cafe data comes from
Venue locations and attributes are derived from OpenStreetMap © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License, together with our own curated research and existing Wi-Fi measurements. Some venue photos are Google Places content, shown with the required Google attribution alongside each image and never stored or modified by us. Every attribute in the app shows its source so you can judge how much to trust it.
Retention & deletion
BrewDesk v1 does not create accounts or store user profiles, saved places, location history, or user-submitted content. There is therefore no BrewDesk account data to delete. You can contact us with any privacy question or request.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including California and the EU/EEA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise them; we respond within the legally required timeframe.
Children
BrewDesk is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced in the app.
